Details of the Organization
CRES, Nepal was established in 2000 and registered in District Administrative Office (DAO) Saptari under Organization Registration Act of 1977. CRES, Nepal is also affiliated with Social Welfare Council and NGO Federation Nepal.
Since its inception CRES, Nepal has attempted to better the future of children by protecting their rights as ensured in several national acts and regulations as well as in international conventions. Together with child rights, it is also alert to promote and protect the environment that ensures effective and meaningful participation in the community.
Children, Community Based Organizations (CBOs), the poor, the socially excluded and marginalized communities, NGOs, local and government line agencies, civil society, the media, researchers, schools, teachers and students, are the prime target groups of the organization. CRES, Nepal has launched several programs with support from several donor organizations in the district. The programmes organized by CRES Nepal were: Participatory Capacity Building Programme with NPLAP/DFID, Meena Sanchar Programme and Jeevan Upyogi Seep and HIV/AIDS with UNICEF, Reproductive Health, community empowerment programme, establishment of community information resource center, formation of childrens' club. In Saptari district CRES Nepal is working with 14 different NGOs and 38 schools in 41 V.D.C. and 1 municipality.
The community information and resource center established at CRES Nepal is pioneering - it provides a comprehensive database of 114 VDCs on pro poor settlements and contemporary programmes launched by government and non governmental line agencies. The resource center is well-equipped with all the required training materials needed to conduct training programmes.
CRES Nepal has expanded its network with 30 non governmental organizations in Sunsari, Siraha, Dhankutta, Banke, Terathum, Baitadi, Morang, Kanchanpur and Udayapur. At the national level, it has worked with SAHAKARYA, LEADERS Nepal, and SIAN. It is affiliated with NGO Federation and National Welfare Council.
A number of sector-specific experts and professionals are working with CRES Nepal. Particularly, the team has gained an expertise to conduct programmes and training in Participatory Approach to Child Rights, Capacity Building, Environment Protection, and Reproductive Health. The major capacity of the organization entails its ability to conduct institutional capacity analysis, assist in the preparation of regulations of CBOs, community analysis, VMGOS preparation of organization, informal urban child education, parents gathering, institutional capacity development, gender training, journalism training, publication of wall calendar, street drama, child labor leadership, adult education, HIV/AIDS, safer motherhood, maternal child health, proposal writing training, environment and sanitation training, social mobilization, PRA training, public hearing, participatory monitoring, planning and evaluation, community empowerment, fund raising and resource mobilization.
Other endeavors include promoting individuals and institutions working for childrens' rights, socially excluded groups, organize different rally and campaigns to create a conducive environment to work together for GO and NGO.
UNICEF Nepal, District Public Health Office, Saptari and DACAW programme is supporting CRES Nepal to organize sex and health related programmes since three years. The major activities covered during the periods are: Baseline Survey, Group Formation, Trainings, Social Mobilization, Monitoring and Evaluation.
The other health related work conducted by CRES Nepal is Jeevan Upyogi Seep, raising awareness on HIV/AIDS, mother saferhood reproductive health in village, district and community level by organizing workshops, rallies and street dramas. Similar kinds of activities have also been organized through childrens' club formation.
CRES Nepal has published training manuals, process documents, success stories. It is also a member of District Health Coordination Committee and District Child Welfare Committee.
